Gigabyte GTX 1080ti power connector confusion

Hey, I recently upgraded my GPU from AMD R9 290x 8GB to GTX 1080ti and me noticed an issue that confused me a lot.

So I have just received my GPU about an hour ago and without much thinking, I started taking my computer apart. I took my old graphics card out and I slid new GTX inside when I noticed that the GTX 1080 REQUIRES DIFFERENT AMOUNT OF PINS.

I don't even know how to check if 1080 will work with my old power supply and I'm scared to try

Guys, I don't really know what kind of power supply I have but I know that it has 2x 6+2 pins

So I would be very happy if you could help me figure out how to plug GTX by looking at my old card's specs

my 1080ti wanted 2 x 8 pins so just plugged them all in and worked fine.

What is the exact model of your 1080ti?
also what PSU do you have ?

A GPU that works with a 290x will work with a 1080ti.

You're going to have to look at your old power supply. There are a lot of extremely horrid PSUs that have no business powering an $800 GPU that will have the correct connectors. You'll need to tell us everything you can about the PSU, whether it's telling us the brand written on it and the +12V rail or taking pictures of the whole thing or we can't answer the question.

I'm especially worried you used a power-hungry GPU and then bought an $800 GPU without knowing the PSU you have. That's the computing equivalent of taking pills from an unlabeled container that you find lying around.

So your old card used 1 6 pin and 1 6+2, so presumably the 1080ti wants 2x 8 pin?
so just use your 2x 6+2 pins from your psu and as long as your psu is powerful enough it should work fine

1080 ti should use two 8 pins, or maybe a 6 + 8 pin.

and 290x uses 2 8 pins, you want to connect one of your 6+2 pin into the 8 pin, and connect the main 6 pin (from the 6+2 pin) into the 6pin hole. you can leave the +2pin hanging on the side.

I think im a bit confused, you have a psu With 2x 6+2 connectors and a Gfx card with 2 8pin connectors. So effectively they are the same. They only go in one way the same as on your 290x had a 6+2 to make an 8.

You have a very nice Super Flower psu with two 6+2 pcie cables. No single graphics card takes more than that. You will be fine.

Ok, SO how many pins does your 1080ti have?

On the box, it says that it needs 8pin and one 6 pins with a power greater or equal to 600w.
But just to make sure what power supply I have I sent a ticket to OverclockersUK where I got my pc built. So let's wait until they reply with the model of my PSU

That's a golden green hx gold.
Either a 650 or 750w if it's has twin 6+2 pins.

Not going to be an issue with 1080ti at all.

Crack on & use it.

6+2 to one connector , 6 to the other & leave the 2 pin hanging.

What bothers Me more is if that's a bottom mount Psu & the case has a fan grill on the bottom it is to all intents & purposes upside,down imo.

If it were the right way round you'd clearly see the label on the side.

Exit - if you only have a pair of 6+2 cables it's a 550w model, the 650/750 have 2 pairs of connectors , 2 on each cable.

You are correct i took turned it the other way and the sticker said that its 550 should i put GTX1080ti inside ?

I know gigabyte state 600w But the :-* is a very good Psu & is an old precursor to modern dc-dc units (as in it can fulfil near its whole rated wattage on the 12v rail alone)

As long as you're not running 10 drives & a 150w+ cpu it'll manage absolutely fine.

I have I7-4790k
16gb DDR3 ram
2x 2tb HDD set to RAID0
And wifi card that i can take out

Fine, you're looking at 450w max really.

The Psu is fine for that, no need to remove anything.
