Recently bought the GTX1070 G1 now looking for monitor upgrade but budget limited to approx. £500, a 2K IPS monitor , 27 inch, has been suggested any suggestions, new territory for me this. System:- ASRock Z170 Extreme 7+, i7 6700K, 2x Samsung SM950 Pro 512Gb RAID 0, RAM Corsair CMK32GX4M4A2800C16; Creative Sound Blaster ZxR; PSU BeQuiet 850 W Dark Pro 11; Logitech 2.1 Z623 and Sennheiser HD598SESamsung M3 2TB and Asus VN248H.

Thanks to those of you who answered my query, finally went with the Acer Predator XB271HU , wanted an IPS panel and G Sync. Paid more than I intended to but will now sell on an old AMD build complete with Windows 10 OS and the Asus VN248H. Hopefully recoup approx £600 for this.

High speed IPS panels are great .... any panel other than the ones mentioned have too much lag time making them poor choices for gaming. Look at the 3 ms response time of the older version of your panel

The ones that climb over 16 ms, I wouldn't game with.

The reason for a 165 Hz panel becomes more apparent when you turn off G-Sync...

I'd lose the RAID 0 on the SSDs... according to Samsung

a) It is not supported by Samsung
b) The Samsung utilities don't work
c) It provides no benefit

I tried it w/ twin 256 pros 18 months ago ... after 6 months I broke the array and:

a) problems went away
b) performance, other than in certain storage benchmarks,

I have the Acer XB271HU monitor. I can't tell the different between 120, 144 or 165hz so for me it was a waste of money, BUT I love IPS panels. The colors are just so much nicer. Some people say they can see the "difference" but I couldn't...

I hit 70-120fps in all the newest games on Max settings with Gigabyte GTX1070 G1 @ 2065 / 9000

The reason for a 165 Hz panel becomes more apparent when you turn off G-Sync and switch to ULMB. The 165 Hz panels can do 120 Hz under ULMB, IIRC, the older XB270HU 144 Hz could only do 100Hz under ULMB

G-sync modules also support a native blur reduction mode dubbed ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur). This allows the user to opt for a strobe backlight system if they want, in order to reduce perceived motion blur in gaming. It cannot be used at the same time as G-sync since ULMB operates at a fixed refresh rate only, but it's a useful extra option for these gaming screens.

It should be noted that the real benefits of G-sync really come into play when viewing lower frame rate content, around 45 - 60fps typically delivers the best results compared with Vsync on/off. At consistently higher frame rates as you get nearer to 144 fps the benefits of G-sync are not as great, but still apparent. There will be a gradual transition period for each user where the benefits of using G-sync decrease, and it may instead be better to use the ULMB feature included, which is not available when using G-sync. Higher end gaming machines might be able to push out higher frame rates more consistently and so you might find less benefit in using G-sync. The ULMB could then help in another very important area, helping to reduce the perceived motion blur caused by LCD displays. It's nice to have both G-sync and ULMB available to choose from certainly on these G-sync enabled displays.
