This is my very first pc build. Never really thought much about building a pc until I realized for the most part, I could get away with a bit more quality features and pay less than retail at a store. I have been able to do enough research on my own to complete the build and get into the bios and all that jazz, but I am definitely not extremely savvy with computers. That being said, here is my problem.
The build:
Gigabyte H370 Aorus Gaming 3 Wifi
Intel i5-8600k
Samsung 860 Evo 250gb SSD
G.skills ripjaws v series 8gb DDR4 2666
Coolermaster Hyper 212 evo
Seasonic M12II 520w 80+ Bronze fully modular power supply
Corsair carbide spec-04 case
I opted to use the intel uhd graphics as opposed to getting a graphics card. I don't actually game, this pc was built basically for home use. I have a wife that does digital marketing and I dabble in light photo/video editing (mostly hunting photos/videos). I just wanted a pc that would work well for home use but had a good amount of speed/power. I also wanted a mobo that had wifi which is why I opted for this one.
I assembled the pc, and upon first power up the mobo flashed once, the cooler and the case fans spun on, and continued spinning, intermittently going through various rpm's, but nothing would show up on the monitor. I went through every single connection, checked and rechecked and still could not get the pc to boot into the bios. I walked away for 30 minutes. Came back, decided after a couple of google searches to remove one of the ram sticks. Poof! Booted into bios no problem. While on the bios screen I reinserted the 2nd ram stick, no problem. Did the save and exit, no boot. Removed the 2nd stick again, no problem. Booted right up.
What did I do wrong? My understanding was this mobo was capable of 8gb DDR4 at 2666. What am I missing? I would very much like to utilize the most ram I can. Do I need to return the G.skills ram and get something different? Is there a way to tweak a setting so I can run the 2nd ram stick?
*Update* (11/27/2018 4:53 CST) - I went back to the manufacturers website and pulled up the memory support list for this specific mobo. Turns out, the RAM I purchased isn't even on their qualified vendors list. Obviously I would assume that makes a big difference, but does it make THE difference? Is my best course of action to return the G.Skills RAM and purchase something from the qualified vendors list?
