So I finally got up the courage to update my Gigabyte Z68X-UD4-B3 Motherboard from it's ancient F5 version bios to the latest non-UEFI bios, the F10.
So now I am wondering whether it is worth installing the Gigabyte Touch Bios software or not. I am not scared of changing things in regular bios (although I am hardly an expert on what all the settings should be!) so I don't know whether Touch Bios is worth it. Does it give you any extra functionality? Are there any potential problems with installing/using it?
I am assuming that my model supports, there is a caution on the Gigabyte site about mixed compatibility for Z68 chipsets but then doesn't seem to specify directly. I am 99% sure it mentioned TouchBios on the box!
On an unrelated topic. For a long time my DVD drive refuses to recognize when a CD or DVD is placed into it. I know the problem isn't the drive itself as I have tested in other PCs and works fine and also have tested another working drive in my PC and had the same problem. The thing is as I use SSDs I have my SATA modes set to ACHI and not IDE. So in the BIOS I have my PCH SATA Control Mode set to ACHI as well as my GSATA and eSATA set to ACHI. Could this possibly be the reason I am having trouble with the drive? I have tried troubleshooting the problem in Windows itself and have come up completely blank, so was wondering if could possibly be BIOS related.
Also should I enable HDD S.M.A.R.T Capability? It has always been disabled but I don't know really what it does... if it is relevant I am using 2 SSDs for programs (with windows installed on one of these) and an HDDs for data storage.
Thanks!!
