Gigabyte motherboard compatability

I need to replace my hard disc drive. Will a Seagate 500GB SATA-600 operate with my Megabyte GA-73PVM-S2H motherboard ?
If so, will I get 6BG/s (SATA-3) or will the board just run as before (3GB/s) ?
