Specs:
CPU : Intel 7th Gen Core i5-7600K and Intel E97379-001 CPU Cooler
GPU : MSI GAMING X Radeon RX 580 8 GB Video Card
Motherboard : GIGABYTE GA-Z270
RAM : G.Skill Aegis 8 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2133 CL15 Memory
PSU : EVGA 430 W1 430 W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply
Case : Cooler Master MasterBox Q500L

Problem:

When I press power I immediately get a red CPU light, it seems like the CPU isn't getting power, but the cords are definitely snug and there are no bent pins

What I've tried:
  1. Removed hardware: graphics card, memory and tried booting in multiple configurations
  2. Tried with a single RAM stick
  3. Cleaned off old thermal paste and applied more
  4. Reseated CPU several times
  5. Checked for bent pins, cannot see any

Not sure where to go from here, I tried starting without the CPU in and had the same result. It seems like the CPU isn’t being recognized from the get go. I used some of these parts on a recent build and didn’t have any issues then.

I appreciate any help!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

PSU : EVGA 430 W1 430 W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply
How old is the PSU in your build?

Removed hardware: graphics card, memory and tried booting in multiple configurations
Did you power the system without a discrete GPU in the build?

Checked for bent pins, cannot see any
You might want to reinspect but with the light shining at multiple angles, illuminating from the 4 corners of the socket, so you can tell if anything/pin is amiss.

Thanks for the welcome and the reply!

The PSU is about 4-5 years old, it has definitely crossed my mind that it could be the issue.

Yes, I have removed the GPU and tried without it installed, same results. I went ahead and reinspected for bent pins as you suggested and still couldn't find anything that looks damaged at all. Everything seems to be as it should be.

Has this build ever worked?

Seems some info is missing from the motherboard model number.

Sounds like a BIOS update could be needed to properly recognize the gen 7 CPU.

Resetting the motherboard to its default settings may also help, assuming it worked with a previous CPU.
