Gigabyte OC-PEG function

Hey all (again...),

I was comparing the specs for some Z97 motherboards and noticed that, for example, on Gigabyte's Z97x-UD5H, there is a connector on the side of the motherboard that allows one to connect a SATA power cable to it, and in the instructions it says to plug this in when using 2 or more GPU's for extra system stability.

Now, since I don't think i have seen anything like that on any other motherboards, does this actually help when running x2 SLI (2x 970's specifically), or should I ignore it when choosing my MoBo?

It helps alleviate the motherboard from carrying the 75W per slot from the ATX connector. Shouldn't really be needed.
