Gigabyte Quality Issues

Hello,

I wanted to share some issues I have had with Gigabyte products so that people who consider buying their product are informed before purchase. The first Gigabyte Ultra Durable board I purchased caused random crashes due to south bridge issues. A friend of mine had a similar board with the same issues.

I had the board replaced under warranty and the new board caused problems immediately. The BIOS seems to be the issue. After several attempts to start the machine it finally posted after copying a back up of the BIOS to itself. I had it tested and it passed all its tests. Now it is failing to post again and seems to be caught in some kind of power up cycle loop. I had the PSU replaced with a brand new Corsair. It did the same thing with the previous PSU.

I have had many Rigs and the product that stands out as being overly problematic are the Gigabyte motherboards. I will not be purchasing Gigabyte products again. The cost and the inconvenience has been to much to ignore. I would not recommend these boards to anyone and anyone who considers buying one may want to check out other brands before doing so.

I have installed at least 15 Gigabyte mobos and the only thing that was wrong, was the audio port.

I used to vacuum them, so maybe static electricity killed it.

But that's all. Now I got ASUS, because they didn't have Gigabyte I wanted on stack.

No the boards were sourced from separate suppliers. I would not go so far to say that all Gigabyte boards will be dodgy but I have noticed a few problems with them. The problems seem confined to the Ultra Durable USB 3.0 series 1156 socket. I also responded to a user on this site that had the UD series and it turned out that had a south bridge issue if memory serves.

The fact that a board supplied under warranty has failed out of the box is simply not good enough for a relatively high end board. If it was my main Rig I would be very unhappy. Even though the machine in question is my second Rig it is still quite the inconvenience. With this in mind I thought I would let people know. Personally I will be sticking with ASUS from now on.

This is the reason my last board was Asus(lots of features I wanted on a mATX), but the last few have been Gigabyte

Hi Wamphryi,

What mobo do u have? Usually when u have a problem, and u replace the part u think its faulty, and u get a new one, its not the one with the problem.

I became so fed up with Asus customer service that I started using Gigabyte. One thing about Gigabyte, I noticed right away that they answer the phone and talk to customers. If there is an issue, they tell you what it is right away, with no runaround.
I may be dreaming, but it seems like Asus won't give you that same consideration.

You never said what your hardware configuration is, and so I am going to withhold comment about what the actual cause of the problem may have been.
It may or may not be the motherboard, without the information, it could be hard to say.

Well, the guy is pushing it, but do u know who complain and write about the mobo problem, people who have a mobo problem.

And those millions out there owners, they just enjoy the boards. I did visit this part of the TH forum for the first time like 10 days ago and it seem to me that ASUS owners had the most trouble.

Maybe its because there is more ASUS owners had some questions, but its not by any means indicator of quality or the other side.
