you whould need 900 watt power supply to run three 290.
850 watt is perfect for one 290 even if you have a wattercooler.
even if you have a amd cpu your system whould not consume mote than 750 watt with the 290.
give us all you system specs.
a r9 290 has a tdp of 275 watts for 2 it closes nearly 600 watt.
a intel cpu is at around 80 watt and a amd at about 120 watt.
the rest of the motherboard can consume up to 75 watt.without hdd and peripherals.
if you have a watter cooler you might not stand a chance.
no problem at all.and if you have a bottleneck it will be like 3 or 4 % loss.2-3 frames less.due to the pci express 2.0 slot.dont worry about it you should be able to play on 1080 p at a frame rate of 60 fps on ultra with aptive vsync on.
thanks jonn93 still leaning towards a sapphire r9 290 tri x this looks like a beast of a card, if I wasn't going with amd I would go for a gtx 780 or even a gtx 780 ti lol thanks for the info much needed!
what pin connections does a sapphire r9 290 tri x have is it 2 x 8 pin and will I be able to use my current xfx 850 watt psu with it. as it only has 2 x 6pin + 2. will It be okay if I plug the 2 x 6 pin +2 into it ?
there should be a adapter with the card when you buy it.as i see it comes with 8 PIN to 4 PIN Power Cable
6 PIN to 4 PIN Power Cable.so you wont have a problem you will conect one 6 pin from your psu and one 8 pin from the adapter provided.
you will provide it whith what it is requesting you will use first the ones that the power supply has.your power supply should have 2 8pin to 6 pin conectors.what is the ecact model of your power supply?
chris78, to clear the air, do you mean 3 TIMES of an r9 290 Gigabyte model (as JOHNN93 has assumed) or do you mean the windforce 3x model only 1 graphics card.
Should you only mean the single graphics card the 850 watt will be fine to power that.
so u suggest using that instead of the graphics leads that come with psu ?
your power supply has
2 x 6-Pin, 2 x 6+2-Pin
so you have enough leads to connect your gpu without using adapters provided with the gpu.
in theory the psu is designed to handle 2 gpu with one 8pin and one 6 pin each.
