Hi everyone,

So basically I just put together a new setup with a RX 480 and I am having a few problems. The first problem I noticed was that the GPU fans would really rev up and were extremely loud on start-up which led me to notice on the Xtreme Gaming software that Gigabyte uses to monitor and adjust the graphics card settings, the GPU usage was at 100% when I started the computer. This was fixed when I only restarted the computer, but it would happen almost everytime I started the computer for the day. I didn't really mind restarting it because it only took a few seconds. Now the next thing I noticed today was the fan revving up again when I launched Runescape. The GPU went to 100% usage, and started increasing in temperature but the fan was extremely loud again so I tried to use the software to tune the fan setting to a more appropriate level. The software was basically useless and didnt affect the fan speed at all, like my options were just overridden. I finally got it to slow down after switching off "3D Active fan" but now it literally wont even turn the fan back on no matter what I do. Aside from resetting the computer. The last thing I noticed was when looking at the GPU status in AMD Overdrive the readings are all not there.

I attached an album of images to hopefully help convey what I am trying to say. Please let me know if you guys have any idea what could be going wrong.

My other specs are below:

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor
MOBO: ASRock 990FX Killer ATX AM3+ Motherboard
MEMORY: G.Skill Ares Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory
PSU: Corsair CX750M
GPU: Gigabyte Radeon RX 480 G1 Gaming 8GB

Solution
try disabling or enabling amd cool and quiet in bios. if you have the option.
if its disabled already try enabling it and switching between pwm and rpm for the fan control option.

I just disabled that, that will most likely fix the 100% at startup problem but still unsure of the fan controls not responding at all. Thanks for the tip.

Unfortunately the fans are out of your control. During startup, the xtreme gaming engine won't run until you hit the login screen meaning that the fans will ALWAYS be at their default setting until that xtreme gaming engine starts and tells it otherwise.

I've tried to change it aswell with my GTX 1060 6GB G1 Gaming and it only works when the utility starts up.

I think I may have explained my problem poorly. The fan control during startup isn't the problem. I tried to adjust the fan settings within the Gigabyte software during normal operation. The problem was that no matter what I adjusted or applied in the fan settings, the fan speed stayed locked at a certain speed. I couldn't increase it or decrease it with the software until I turned off the "3D active fan" setting which resulted in the fans just completely shutting off. After that I tried to turn "3D active fan" back on and it didn't do anything and the fans remained off as my GPU increased temperature. Again, thanks for the fast responses, I appreciate it.

Just disabled AMD Cool and Quiet, does it matter that it was in the CPU settings in the BIOS? Trying to recreate the problem from before. Definately seems like the Gigabyte software is more responsive to my adjustments now. I don't know if this is relevant to anything but I also just noticed in Openhardware monitor that my GPU is only at 0.580 volts. Seems low to me but I am not sure.

cool and quiet controls the motherboards cooling profile as a whole not just the cpu fan profile. when i enabled it on my old am2+ build it would cause the gpu fan to spin up to 100% at boot time.
as for the low volts i would assume thats normal for the gpu thats sitting at idle without any oc profiles applied.
you will likely find applying 1 of the other power profiles will change the low voltage state.

The gigabyte appears to be working now that I disabled AMD cool and Quiet in the BIOS settings but if the problem arises again this is the first thing I will do. The fast startup definitely resolved the 100% at startup too though so thank you very much! The only puzzling thing left is Openhardware monitor saying that the GPU is only set to 0.580Volts.

Good to know, thank you again for the help and the knowledge!
