Hey guys,

Im at my wits end trying to figure this out. I purchased this board about a year ago and absolutely LOVE it. Its got tons of features, looks beautiful, performs well, is stable, etc.

I saw that it had a header onboard for supporting Gigabytes Thunderbolt add-in card, so i picked up the latest version, the Maple Ridge. I have connected all the cables properly. It takes 2 PCIe power from the PSU, plus the thunderbolt header cable and a USB passthrough for the USB 4 support.

In my device manager I have a code 43 on one of my USB hubs whenever the device is installed. Plugging USB devices into the USB4(C)/TB4 ports does not work, though they will charge devices slowly, there is no data capability or recognition of the device in windows. I have no TB4 devices to test that functionality, but im assuming it would work fine since the device manager shows no problem with the TB aspect.

Any ideas or thoughts? Nothing i do seems to work. Gigabytes website is useless. Ive completely re-installed windows 11 from scratch, installed every driver I can find. Ive looked at my cabling again, and everything is where it needs to be. Im desperate here, my OCD wont let me forget about this hahhaa.

It does not appear to be compatible with your motherboard. Those listed are all Intel based, not AMD.
Yea i dont think this is it though, i just think the list is outdated. It has the proper wiring for it on the motherboard. My thunderbolt controller shows up in device manager with no issues. The card requires a USB2 header connection to the motherboard also, i think this is where the problem is. Its connected, but i think there is a resource allocation problem.

Like I said, i dont have any TB4 or USB4 peripherals to test with unfortunately. The USB3 hub problem only appears with the card installed.

You guys may be correct, as i dont need see ANY AMD boards on the list. That is so strange. Is there something about TB4 thats that much different from the TB3 cards?

It could be almost anything causing the compatibility problem. Thunderbolt on desktop is a nightmare due to the lack of integration and how it's left up to the motherboard manufacturers. Gigabyte has updated both of the cards motherboard compatibility lists with recent platforms from AMD and Intel so I think it's fairly safe to say it's accurate for those specific cards.

I'm assuming you've got the card in the PCIe x4 slot (very bottom slot) on your motherboard already, but if not that's the only thing I can think of trying other than buying the compatible card.

Yes, its in my bottom PCIe slot. What a bummer, i think ill just take it out. Now i need to try to resell it, and not even sure if i have the box still. Damn, such a niche item too. Dont think ill bother with the TB3 card, was looking to future proof a little.
