Trying to figure out why the system won't even show the debug post code. I assume that if there's power, the post codes should show?

Do these pins look bent/ok?

The CPU fan should run at low speed and ramp up under load. Your debug LED should be on also. I'd say the motherboard needs to be RMA'd. Do a paperclip test on the PSU and check the voltages with a digital multimeter first if you can to rule that out. Make sure you have 12v, 5v, and 3.3v.

psu is fine - evga supernova comes with its own fake-motherboard-24-pin-paperclip-thing

note:

1) PSU 1 was not fine - the red power button wouldn't turn on at all
2) PSU2 (current one) - red power button turns on... but nothing else happens. is that a certain sign for RMA?

It sounds like either the CPU or the motherboard, and since CPU's don't fail all that frequently, my money would be on the mobo. There is an issue with Skylake CPU's being a little fragile because of the smaller die, and can be damaged by some coolers which put a lot of pressure on the chip. If you had a problem installing your air cooler, there's a chance that might have something to do with it.

Do you know if there is a certain way to check for motherboard RMA - basically it's from Amazon and they charge a 15% penalty for false positive RMAs
