Hey guys,

I am at my first build and this is the configuration:
CPU i7-6800k
MB Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming7
GPU EVGA GTX 1080 FTW
PSU EVGA Supernova 850 G2

I was trying to install the GPU drivers and it says the system configuration won't support these drivers. Windows is correctly installed on 64-bit, same as the drivers.
I checked the Devices Manager panel and it seems the system does not recognize my GPU. Under the Display adapters it only shows the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter (which is the MB integrated GPU, right?). The monitor is plugged to the dedicated GPU DVI port, tho.

Any ideas what I could do to solve this problem?

I checked the BIOS and under peripherals panel I switched the initial display output from PCIe 1 to PCIe 2 or IGFX and still does not help.

Solution
which version of windows is installed?

If its win 10, what build number?
right click start
chose run...
type winver and press enter
If you aren't on version 1607, go here and click Upgrade now. This will download the upgrade assistant. Run it and it will upgrade win 10 to latest version.

Old versions of win 10 don't know what a gtx 1080 is

Works perfectly. I'm just being dumb. Thanks 😀

One more thing, tho.
Even tho I can see the video card now, my monitor displays a pixellated image. Does it have anything to do with the windows activation?

Any ideas?

what resolution are you running screen at? Have you got latest Nvidia drivers?

activation shouldn't effect screen resolution I don't think. All it does is restrict ability to change desktop image but you can get around that. See http://www.howtogeek.com/244678/you-dont-need-a-product-key-to-install-and-use-windows-10/

I'm running the monitor at max resolution, which is the recommended one by the windows (1920 x 1080). The refresh rate is set at 60 hertz and it cannot be changed. I just bought the monitor. It's an Monitor Gaming LED 21.5 Asus VP228TE Full HD 1ms.
My guess is I shouldn't have a hardware problem. Both the GPU and the monitor are new, designed for gaming and some of the best on the market.
I also activated the windows and indeed has nothing to do with it.
And I did get the latest Nvidia drivers (375.95).

I wonder if it has anything to do with the bios setups. Or still the video card?
