I'm having a problem getting the Intel Z170 chipset embedded HD Audio device installed.

Solutions?

I assume you've checked the makers website to make sure they updated drivers for Windows 7 64 bit. The odd thing is the VEN and DEV references in the Device Instance Path. 8086 refers to Intel and A170 doesn't exist in their drivers list on www.pcidatabase.com.

I believe it's a Realtek setup - possibly 5963. See if you can track down that driver.

Yeah, they posted this file as a Realtek audio driver, and it installs "successfully" as well but still.. nothing.

I'm pretty sure the audio controller is the Intel integrated device that is part of the Z170 Skylake chipset, which is why it has 8086 as the Vendor ID. Another funny story about this chipset is that I downloaded the Intel Driver Update Utility 2.4 and it didn't recognize ANY of my hardware as Intel. Not the SATA controller, not the USB controller, not the ethernet controller.. nothing.

This is a really old thread but I had the same problem and found a solution. I'm posting this here so anyone who searches for this in the future can get this annoying problem solved.

After I tried installing every driver that I could think of and nothing worked, I went into the BIOS and disabled the onboard audio card. Then I enabled it again and noticed a second option underneath called Audio DSP which was enabled. I disabled Audio DSP, booted windows, opened device manager and clicked "Scan for hardware changes". And just like that, windows recognized the card properly and installed the correct drivers.

The hardware id shown before the solution was:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A170&SUBSYS_A1821458&REV_31

After installing the proper driver, the hardware id shown was:

HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_1458A182&REV_1003

Windows recognizes the sound card as: Realtek High Definition Audio

Hope this helps people from the future. 🙂
