What if any setting in bios should I check or change so my external DVD player will run with either Win 10 or Win 11 ?

Its an LG DVD player...works fine with my laptop (Win 10)

Where are you connecting usb cable? Maybe front panel? Is front panel usb ports connected to motherboard? Usb dvd is no different to a usb stick, does usb stick work in whichever port you're trying to use?

Maybe this might help

"A fix that has worked for many people is to go in Device Manager and under "IDE ATA/Atapi controllers", delete both the channel 0 and channel 1 entries by uninstalling them. Then reboot the computer. The 2 things will be reinstalled and then your drive may show up."

Got from here

Thanks but the only thing listed under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers are Standard SATA ACHI controller

Asked for some help, Aeacus suggested trying another drive, if you can.

I'd suggest trying with 2nd external DVD player, preferably different brand. Could be that the LG one has some fit with OP's desktop. If 2nd, different brand, external DVD doesn't work either, then it would point towards MoBo issue.

There's not much to do with dvd drives so kind of a head scratcher. Maybe try SFC / scannow or reset - keep files option.

How to perform SFC / scannow if don't know.

Look in Reliability Monitor/History and Event Viewer for any error codes, warnings, or even informational events that may relate to the DVDs' failing to run.

Keep in mind that any relevant entries may not specifically or explicitly refer to DVD, LG, etc..

Look for any entries captured at the times DVD failures occured.
