Question gigabyte z790 aorus elite ax not recognize ssd

Your MoBo has 4x M.2 slots. Try your new drive in all 4 slots.

If your drive still doesn't appear in BIOS, regardless what M.2 slot you use, you most likely have DOA drive. Return it to get a replacement.
But if drive does show up in one of the 4 slots, keep it there so you can use it. As of why MoBo can't see the drive in 1st slot, your guess is as good as mine (some MoBos are more capricious than others).

Thank you Aeacus. You are right, it inmediatly recognized the ssd when i inserted the ssd into the second slot. Do you know why this is happening? Because as far as i know, the first slot is better, also it has a thermal guard, so i would like to be able to use the first slot.

1st M.2 slot is using CPU PCI-E lanes. The rest are using chipset (MoBo) PCI-E lanes.

What CPU you have btw?

also it has a thermal guard
MoBo M.2 covers are more for an eyecandy than actual heatsink.
If M.2 drive doesn't come with dedicated heatsink off the bat (e.g Samsung 970 Evo Plus) then it doesn't need MoBo M.2 cover on top of it. It can actually make things worse, by trapping heat in.
And those M.2 drives that do come with heatsink (e.g Corsair MP700 Pro), the heatsink is so big, that you can't install MoBo M.2 cover regardless.

wow thanks a lot. Im finally installing windows now. I dont know much about CPU PCI-E lanes, for now im going to use the second slot, but if i would want to use the first slot am i going to need a different type of ssd?

A quick look on the support page for SSDs does not show that model in there. I see a SK Hynix P31, but no P41.
That could be why it doesn't like the first slot that runs straight to the CPU.
