Hi,

I recently bought a new i5-4590 processor and a refurbished gigabyte z87x-ud3h from TigerDirect. I am having issues with it not booting. The motherboard powers up and the CPU fan attempts to spin however the system shuts down almost immediately. It then continues to cycle on, off, on indefinitely.

I've done all the ram checks. I've rechecked all my connections.

I've also swapped the PSU for a known working one and the issue still persists.

After doing research, I read that some boards need their BIOS updated to accept Haswell Refresh CPU's. Could that be my issue? If so, I was going to return the gigabyte z87x-ud3h and buy a Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H

Would the MOBO I plan on purchasing be ready for my CPU out of the box?

Thanks!

Intel Core i5-4590 3.30GHz 6MB 350 MHz / 1250 MHz Haswell Refresh 22nm C0 84W 100 F9

you need bios revision F9 for that chip

still the guy above is wrong you got to check the boards cpu list to see what bios supports what chip every time and if mail ordering you must concider the board will be shipped with a first release bios if nothing else and plan for that

if you look at newer boards as he says you will see some chips still need a newer bios over first release

you could all ways buy the cheapest chip that's supported under the bios your boards got on it now in order to flash to the bios you need for the chip you want to run ??? [best just flash the latest if flashing ]

with out knowining what you board has on it and going by gigas list f7 is the bios it should have [ ???] so this chip will /should work to boot to flash

unless you can find cheaper ??

or you could just rma the chip you got and trade it for a 4670 ? it should work right out of the box on that ???

I would like to know what about my statement you consider to be wrong. The Z97 and H97 chipsets were launched in conjunction with the haswell refresh cpus to include OOTB support for them. The CPU compatibility list at gigabyte shows that 4590 is compatible with all Z97 and H97 chipset mobos from launch. There are listings of bios versions ranging from F1 to F3 depending on the motherboard but when you look into each one, the listed compatible bios is the first bios that shipped with each board. They do not require an update to be compatible with the 4590.

The OP asked what mobo he could exchange his current one for that would provide OOTB support for his cpu and I still stand behind my statement that he needs a 9x series board if he wants to ensure OOTB support.

that's not what you stated

'' you want to ensure out-of-the box compatibility with haswell refresh, you need a 9x series Mobo''

anyway the thing is all ways expect the board to have the first release bios unless stated /r known . otherwise ..
that all your guaranteed to get
