Other then the few connector differences and such, is there any real reason to spend the extra $600 dollars (Canadian) on the Extreme board vs the regular? I know Aorus boards have better longevity, but I usually only keep my boards between 2 to 4 years max. Im doing content creation in 8K video with my system, so its geared for video editing. I also plan on getting a 5000 series GPU at some point. CPU will be the U265K. Memory will be 128GB of DDR5. I might try and get a 8TB Samsung 9100 SSD as well, but thats later. I want Thunderbolt 5. Any real reason for what I do to get the better board? Im sure lots of watts will be flowing through the system with everything installed, so heat could be an issue. I currently have a Thermaltake 1200 watt PSU.

Overclocking functions and features aside(whether you choose to OC or not), motherboards should be chosen based on aesthetics and individual needs(features).

Does the Extreme model offer something(s) you need/want?
If not, you can skip it.

Many boards still work past a decade of use - the technology is likely obsolete, so I don't get this one.

Depends on the GPU you get; 'cause if you're aiming at something like a 5090, of which most coolers dump the waste heat inside the case, which in turn, increases overall case ambient(and room ambient, w/o AC) as well as operating thermals for all devices.
No other part in the PC will come close in power use.
