Question Gigabyte Z97P - D3 / RAM compatibility

Hi,

I'd like to upgrade my PC (as it's getting quite slow) with more RAM and SSD drive. My setup is:

• Intel Core i5 4590
• Gigabyte Z97P-D3
• Palit NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB
• 8GB DDR3 1600mhz (1x8GB)
• 1TB S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s

I see that my motherboard is only compatible with DDR3 RAM (and specifically 1333 or 1600mhz). Does that mean that higher speed RAM won't work at all?

Also is there anyhting else I should consider?

Higher speed ddr3 will work, but it may not be able to run at its rated speed. It will default to a slower speed when you first inset the ram.

Right. So no point in getting more expensive higher speed DDR3 then.

Would it be worth removing the current one and buying a pair of higher speed 8GB ones then? (would also avoid any issue with non paired ones, right?)

I would buy identical sticks to whats already in there.
Higher speed ram might only merit a small difference.
If you got faster sticks and mixed them with old, they would be limited to how fast the slower stick can run. If they work at all.
