Gigabyte z97x gaming 5 and 32gb of Gskill Ripjaws X will not post. It goes into an endless boot cycle. The GSkill is F3-2133C11D-16GXL (two 16gb kits - 4x8gb sticks).

Both kits are working independently if I insert them into the two slots fartherest away from the cpu. So it makes sense that they are both good. The computer runs fine. No boot problems or crashes. Put all four sticks in , and it goes into an endless pre-post boot mode.

I have tried XMP mode off and XMP mode on.

I can not bump up the voltage as someone suggested in a thread here. I can not get an option to move the voltages on the memory.

First install 2 sticks in the gray slots, and see if it works, remove them and try slots 3 and 4 the 2 black slots.
If it works in both of those then your memory is not playing nice with each other.
This can happen even buying 2 identical kits.
Your using the exact same memory I have my voltage is set at 1.58 volts for 2 sticks to be stable/
From their I would send this guy a PM

Ok 2 sticks will work in slots 1 and 3. This happens to be a black slot and and a gray slot (the two fartherest from the CPU). Both kits work in this configuration but when the other kit is added to 2 and 4 it's a no go. It tries to power on and then 2-3 seconds in it power cycles with no chance for me to get to the bios at that point. I get the same "power cycle" results if I try to put one kit in the gray slots or the black slots exclusively.

Almost to the point of ordering another MB and when it gets here RMAing the original as it is still under warranty, but I want to be sure that the RAM is good in advance. I have also heard that Gigabyte is not the easiest company to deal with on these sort of problems.

And by the way I contacted Tradesman1. :)

Any OC on the CPU? And what CPU? A slight OC may be required. With the sticks in slots 1-3 go into BIOS and enable XMP to set set them to spec of 2133, then change DRAM voltage to 1.7 (safe) and look for the CPUVTT or DDRVTT voltage and try it at 1.12 - save, exit shut down - add the other two stick in 2-4 and give it a try

- No OC presently on the CPU
- CPU is an i5 4690k
- Trying your solutions now (will update soon)

Ok I'm starting to really hate the Gigabyte F5 bios. Nothing is named the way it should be named. I can not find an option that is equivalent to the CPU VTT or DDR VTT. Any idea what they would call it?

Bumped the DRAM voltage to 1.7 but still a no go with both kits installed.

I've never had this much trouble installing ram, even back in the day when you had to set the timings manually.... 🙁

Ok it was a motherboard issue. I had an identical motherboard next day'ed to me, installed it, installed all the memory and it worked right off the bat. Went in and enabled XMP , rebooted and it's purring right along at the proper speed.

Will just have to RMA the old board and keep it for a new build for my wife's pc.

Thanks to everyone for all the advice.
