hmm, looks pretty standard for the target audience. I'm mainly excited that Z87 full mobo pics etc should start trickling in now

No...it looks like 6 SATA II ports and 2 SATA III just like they said. The SATAIII ports are always a different color to differentiate them.

Then why does the box say "8 SATA3 Ports" ?

Maybe 6 from Intel and 2 from 3rd party chipset. That why we see 2 different colors on SATA ports.

Looks exactly like I expected. I'm glad they're moving away from the fugly blue - white color scheme for their higher-end boards.
