I always recommend getting system which will run like a badass NOW. As i7 is not required right now for gaming. And who knows by the time your "one day" comes i7 4770k is outdated already(Actually it is kind of a outdated already as majority of people buy 4790K instead of 4770K).
So my recommendation is still same to get a H97. But if you've made your decision to go for Z97 then go HD3 they'll all perform pretty much the same in terms of overclocking. I find Gigabyte motherboards to be more reliable then MSI boards.

So a non overclocked i5 4590 will run on a z97? and then when i want to upgrade to overclock it will work on a z97-hd3?

Yes. But don't expect high overclock on these motherboards. As a motherboard with 6 phases is recommended for a decent overclocking with an i5/i7. And all those motherboard have only 4 Phases.
