News GitHub folds into Microsoft following CEO resignation — once independent programming site now part of 'CoreAI' team

I don't think it is surprising.

Microsoft has thrown everything it has into the wind so it can singularly embrace the AI gimmick. Maybe it will actually be sustainable in the long term, who knows. In the short term MS is now a 4 billion dollar company so that is good and the plan is working.

But XBox is in shambles. All of MS's former glorious gaming studios are also in shambles. Xbox is nothing but a software store front now and Microsoft hardware didn't even make the XBox portable, Asus did it with the ROG. Windows is also in shambles losing market share due to(among other things) having Recall crammed down everybody's throats even after all of the customers repeatedly, repeatedly told Microsoft "We do not want this!"

MS did it anyways.

They do __not__ care what you want. You aren't the one paying the bills. Microsoft is the CoPilot company now. Those are Nadella's words. They can get CoPilot per-user licenses of $30 per month, no home Windows user is ever going to pay that kind of subscription every month.

"We are the CoPilot company"
