News GlobalFoundries Sues IBM For Giving Chip Secrets to Intel, Rapidus

Wonder what sort of obligations and conditions were in the IBM-TSMC deal. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a clause that allowed IBM to take its R&D elsewhere if GloFo became unable to make its chips for whatever reason, such as abandoning R&D beyond 12nm for five years.

You could barely trust any "Partners" to keep corporate secrets.

Why would you trust the US Government to keep all the critical strategic data that they want in the "CHIPS Act" for their subsidies, safe and secret?

You'd have to be a complete idiot to trust any government.

I was really bummed about gf abandoning producing leading edge wafers. I feel like that was the whole point of the nanotechnology school here in Albany. Gf and the college would innovate together. And with IBMs help. If they don't wanna go past 12nm then IBM should be able to develop smaller nodes with anyone. At least that's my limited understanding.

Global Foundries: The secret to high speed microprocessors is using silicon instead of vacuum tubes!
IBM: No way! We had been doing it wrong the entire time!
Global Foundries: Be sure to keep this between just us!

When it comes to Governments & keeping Secrets, I don't trust them.
Meh, it's easier to get a spy into a big company than into a government.
Also with so many leaks and hacks that happened in the last years the government is the least of their concerns.
