I'm going to be building a gaming pc, but I was wondering how I will get connection to the router which is far away from my bedroom. I don't think I'm going to run an Ethernet cable all the way from the router to my room, so how will I get it to work?

Solution
Maybe you could get a little WiFi repeater such as this one (http://www.microcenter.com/product/439476/AC750_Wi-Fi_Range_Extender) plug it in somewhere in your room, and run a Ethernet cable from the bottom of it into your new pc.

You could buy a wireless adapter PCI expansion for your new pc and run that also. Both options are right around the same price.

Yeah, I'm honestly not sure what the house wiring quality is, as it is quite old now. Would this be technically the same as getting a new router in the room and just using that?

Well yeah technically, as it is in the center of the house near the tv which uses internet, so I don't think my parents would enjoy having the router in my room, as everyone else needs it.

Either way its either worrying about house wiring or signal from a wifi adapter if u want get a decent wifi adapter but if your getting a powerline adapter i would recommend u find out what rooms are on the same circuit (circuit blows which rooms shut off at the same time) that will give you the best connection speeds

But how far is your room from your router ?

Pretty far away from my room, but If I get a powerline adapter can I use an ethernet cable into it instead of using the signal?

Yea powerline adapters are for transferring wired internet "wirelessly" i guess you could say and a wifi adapter is for wifi. If you get a decent long range adapter that should be fine but itll cost you as much as a powerline adapter but it should be much simpler to setup

Most smart TVs are wireless so if they're using it to stream movies it would still work fine from your room. My wifi is on the second floor, ps3 is in basement, and streaming works great.

Just trying to save you some money and hassle. Depending on house wiring, powerline may not work at all.
