Hi th users,
I'm gonna be building my first ever build tomorrow. I have a few questions.
1. I'm using a SSD as my primary drive. Nothing will be on it it will be a fresh clean drive. Do in just plug it in and install the OS on it?
SSD is just a different type of hard drive. Make sure it is plugged into the first HDD slot on the motherboard OR have no other harddrives installed.
2. Can I install windows via a USB
yes you can install windows via USB but you need to know how to make your USB stick bootable. It will erase everything that is currently on the USB stick to do that. Check out tools like Rufus, etc to make a bootable usb drive
3. Can I install drivers via a usb?
Yes, but you will need to install windows before that. The motherboard probably came with a CD, but you can use another PC and go to the motherboard manufactures website to download drivers. Download the driver that will give you internet access. You can install windows and then just that driver to gain internet access then go to the site to download the rest of the drivers.
4. Should I buy Windows 10 or just get windows 8.1.
Personally I like Windows XP and Windows 7 so I may be biased. But my opinion on everything in general is to never buy the new thing just because its new I let it come out and go through its problems and get it once they have all been fixed. Its like buying a new car, the launch vehicles always have problems that get recalled and changed in the first year. I would get 8 personally if those where my choices just cause I dont really fancy having the latest stuff just to have the latest stuffs but that is solely a matter of opinion
5. Should I just not build and pay someone $200 to do it?
This can only be answered by yourself. If you don't want to do it, just pay someone. If you want to build it but are a little nervous you may break something or not do it right, I would be that nervous unless you are very rough with things. If you spend a little time reading up on how its done, look into elctro static discharge, watch some youtube how to's maybe, etc. You will be alright. If you don't like to read and are rough with things. And are just going to wing it you may run into problems.
Go ahead and call me stupid I'll give ya that. But please help. I'm sort of nervous and extra cautious.
Thanks-!!
