Hopefully 1080p high/ultra 50fps? Or is that too ambitious...

go for more cpu, you can always upgrade just the gpu down the road instead of upgrading evryting
a cheap h81 and an i5-4430 is a good combo unless you already have the amd cpu motherboard

Basically I have a crappy hp desktop on the fm2 platform with 6gb ram. Don't really want to have to change mobo.

If you want to have a nice upgrade path, you need to at least get on to the FM2+ socket because the only stuff on FM2 are A4s, A6, A8s (maybe) and (I'm REALLY not sure) crappy A10s. In contrast, the LGA 1150 socket offers the upgrade to high-end 4th gen Intel Core CPUs and the upcoming Broadwell chips. If you want to save a few bucks, go ahead and reuse your mobo...
