I need to run an SQL server backend (running on Windows Server 2012) for an approximately 10-user database in a physician's office. The files will include a large number of photographs and scanned images for about 10,000 patients with a 100 patient per day volume with ten users connected and running transactions. Reliability and performance are key. I need mirroring (RAID 1 I suppose). I'd rather avoid building a system but will do so if needed. The hardware budget is about $US 5000-$10,000. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Solution
HP DL360P Gen8 ~$4700
2x Xeon E5-2640 Six Core
16GB RAM installed
(can be downsized to single proc for a cost of $2600, can still add the second if it become necessary)

6x HP 600GB SFF 10K HDD(RAID 10 for SQL storage, adjust capacity as necessary for your config) This will give you about 1.8TB usable storage
$3,534

2x HP 146GB 15K SAS for OS
$758

Total:
$8,992(dual proc)
$6,892(single proc)

EDIT: The DL380p Gen 8 could be used to add some additional drive bays, the 360p only has 8 while you can add a second 8 bay module to the 380p for a total of 16 bays.

I suggest calling you local Dell, IBM and HP sales guy. Local number are on there websites. They have configurations for things like that and deliver support via local partners.

@mrdowntownkiller: an imaging server without ECC ram, but a gaming video card? Never ever!
