I own a 1050ti card and was wondering what would be a good cpu to pair with it. I'm upgrading the card in the future so I was looking at something like i5-9400f + ASRock b365m phantom gaming 4 but i'm open to suggestions. I'll be using this pc for gaming mostly.

Solution
Budget winner for motherboard is B450 - X570 is very expensive and the features it brings are useless for most people (I did say "most"). Otherwise, Ryzen 3600 or 3600X : they are of similar value. The former is cheaper, the latter performs better.
Any 3600 is better than a 2700X for games. I own the latter, it's a bit better on heavy computational tasks, but the 3600 (especially X) is much snapper in games.
You can do something like this if it fits into your budget.

Thanks for the quick answer. I was considering r5 2600 as well, but I dont know how that one compares vs r7 2700. Would that be a better choice for games or no? I'm on a kind of tight budget and probably can't afford ram this month so I would run ryzen on single channel ram for a while before I acquire more ram. I've read its kinda bad on single channel though, so i'm still considering my options.

edit: I forgot to mention I will not be overclocking probably so there's that as well.

I know that the 3rd gen is better but I was asking about the 2nd one. And my choices are limited so it's either the i5 from the original post or ryzen 5/7 2nd gen. Thanks for the answer though.

Ah - I misread. The 2600 is no better, and even worse, than the 2700X : lower boost frequencies and less cores. It's dirt cheap though. Single channel RAM will kill a Ryzen's performance though, so if you still want your system to perform somewhat, get the 2600 with 2x8 Gb of 3200 RAM, it WILL outperform a 2700X in single channel.

Alright, thanks for the lightning fast reply. I guess i'll get 2700 by itself and use my current pc for now until i can afford mobo + ram.
