Hey Guys!,
I was wondering on if I should or should not build a computer. I'm still a high school student and I'm most likely getting a job in the summer that will pay me around a thousand dollars. I am looking to build a computer for about $500~$600 or less. My Dell Inspiron 530S has died off a long time ago and has about only 1 gig of RAM which does not help me whatsoever. I want to build a computer that can withstand a lot of programs running at once such as games, documents, browsers, videos, and etc. I'm hoping to get at least 8 gigs of RAM if possible in this budget as well as run most of the modern day games such as League of Legends, World of Warcraft, and any other high-graphics game. I'll be open to any suggestions and also if you could leave suggestions for if I should wait another month for a new product coming out I would gladly appreciate that too. Thank You!

P.S. I already have a have a monitor, mouse, and keyboard :)

If you can wait, black tuesday (starts the friday after thanksgiving) is a great time to build a computer on the cheap. Do you have an os? If so $500 will build a decent computer with 8 gb easily done. But honestly, what you list for games are not really graphically intensive. Personally, since your in high school, i would probally just buy a laptop for 400ish to use with the possible idea of college, way more handy for school work and it should still play wow/LoL. My brother used a popular website to purchase Lenova G780 and it runs WoW just fine. :) Hope this helps, don't get me wrong, i love Desktops for gaming, but laptops are usually more useful in general use.

Well the desktop I have now is a family computer so that's why I didn't really want to take the laptop route, old people find it very hard to adjust to. I don't have an OS disk so I'm planning to buy one or get it somehow.

Now that you have a simple build, ideas behind the selected items.

Case, you're choice. You can easily save about 10 to 20 here just depends on your needs. Went with an atx case that I have used before and it is nice. Other people like the Haf 912 or the antec 300. Really comes down to preference.

Cpu, intel is usually better than amd. Probally will get some flame here, but that cpu is really all that you need.

Mobo, cheapest one I found that supported 1600 ram. 1600 ram is kind of the standard now, and for $5 worth the real world benefits

Gpu, you said WoW, so you wanna came. Should be good up to the 1080p reso with medium settings in most games. Probally could get more out of it, just depends on how comfortable with ocing you are.

Ram, you wante 8 gb. First brand I came across that I trust with cas 9 1600 1.5v.

Storage, this is the one area you can save some money. Could go with a smaller HDD or even a ssd if you wanna savage the parts from the insprion. I don't know what you're family has on the computer now. Just keep in mind you want to have at least 10% free space and 20% is better. Plus future growth. Family pics/vids plus people's music. 2 Tb I thought was a safe area but again, adjust for what you need.

PSU, cheapest one I could find with a brand I trust that meet the power requirements of the system.

optical, don't have to have if you know how to install an os from a usb thumb drive. Kind of like a floppy, still might be needed for now but soon won't be.

OS, if you can run some version of Linux, instant saving of 100. Or ya know other ways.
