I was going to wait until after winter to get a noctua cpu cooler. I have good airflow to my PC from when my window is open. For some reason It is very warm for this time of year so I will get something to hold me over until then. I have read anything good about heatsinks that are under $50 from newegg. I want to know is the Hyper 212 evo as good as it advertises to be. The sites I looked at had the Evo getteing lower temps the the Noctua ND D14. this can't be right??

Solution
The Hyper 212 Evo is excellent value for the money. Go for it. Almost as good as the NH-D14, much cheaper, and it may fit in some places where the Noctua wouldn't.

As for the Evo beating the NH-D14, there are two possible explanations:

1. incompetent reviewers made some mistake

2. maybe the Evo was running at 100% but the NH-D14 was allowed to run slower to minimize noise. See this chart for example: the NH-D14 at 100% cools better than the Evo at 100%, but the Evo wins if the Evo is at 100% and the Noctua isn't.

Well I don't have the cash money to get the Noctua NH-U14S which is about 60-70 bucks on newegg plus shipping but it does include good thermal paste. right now I could pick up the Hyper Evo at a PC boutique for about 45 bucks but i would have to but thernal compound and they only carry stuff that is 15 bucks so that comes to aound 60 bucks. I really hate this intel stock cooler though. If it is not minus 10 degrees C outside the CPU temps get high at stock speeds
