Good CPU for Radeon R9 390 GPU?

In another post, I was asking about a GPU upgrade, and it seems the R9 390 is the one I've chosen to get.

However, in that other post it was mentioned my current CPU would bottleneck with that card. So now, I'm trying to figure out which CPU I should upgrade to.

I'm currently looking at the AMD FX-8370, but I do not at all know what makes a CPU not be able to keep up with the GPU. So I have no idea if the 8370 is even powerful enough for the r9 390.

Would anyone mind suggesting a CPU or explaining what I'm looking for, such as a minimum GHz or minimum cores for a CPU to work with the r9 390.

EDIT - For suggestions of a specific CPU, I'd need one compatible with asrock mobos, so pretty much just AMD.

is it worth the upgrade tho?
you should get an 15?%? faster. so let say if you get 60 fps you will get 69fps. or 30fps become 34?. is that worth it?
it all up to you in the end tho. since you are getting the GPU for sure. why not plug it in to what you have now. and try to play the game you want now and see if you like it first? the trick is to not look at FPS and play the game with the setting you like. and if you can live with that. than thats all good. if not. than go for the upgrade. just remember this. An non lagging computer with upgrade you will endup with another non lagging computer. so upgrade only if you needed it. or you have extra cash to burn 😛.

just have a question for you first. are you using a SSD hard driver? if not that would be the first thing to upgrade. (install your os and games in the same ssd hdd)

6300 (about as good as the setup can get)

^+1 That is good advice. I personally have the 6300 @ 4.3 + r9 290. Works well with titles like Witcher 3 and Fallout 4. The only problem is that the performance suffers a ton when recording/streaming.

Although with that mobo, it would be ashame to not drop a 8370 in it and overclock. That's top of the line AM3+ board and the 8370 have the best pins for overclocking out of all the Fx 8xxx. In that sense, the possibilities are endless. 😛

And when the 390 prices drop after the summer release of polaris, the OP can CFX two 390 and make this rig a 4k monster. 😛 I got my 290 last fall for $200 brand new from Newegg.
