Hello, so, i'm going to upgrade my ol' PC. I currently have the following build:
GPU : GeForce GTX 970 Extreme Gaming
CPU : Amd FX 8300
620w seasonic power supply
8 gb RAM
1 tb HDD.

The first thing i'm going to buy is a SSD, there's no doubt about that, but the next thing is a CPU.
I'm already aware that i need to change my mobo as well, so that's already on the list. But the next thing i'm going to replace is my low tier CPU. I have in mind the Ryzen 5 3600 (or 3600x, not sure if it's worth it over the non-x version). I have my doubts if the market currently have a new CPU that can beat the ryzen 5 3600 (x or not) in it's current price range. After i upgrade the CPU, i may buy the GTX 1660ti (or some other GPU in the same price range).
What i need to know is if it's worth to upgrade to the Ryzen 5 3600 with my current budget and build in mind. Thank you everyone in advance. Cheers and stay safe

Solution
Compared to your FX 8300 a Ryzen 3600 will be a big upgrade. The 3600 is a great choice at the moment. Probably the best bang for the bucks.

Here is what you will need.

  • Ryzen 3600
  • New Motherboard like the Tomahawk Max which come ready for the 3600
  • New DDR4 RAM with at least 3000/3200MHz
  • Get the 1660 Super instead of the ti. Cheaper and performance almost the same. 1660 super has GDDR6 RAM.

With an SSD and this setup it will be night and day compared to your FX 8300 :)

Thank you for the reply! Would the Ryzen 5 3600x make much of a difference to the basic 3600?

The 3600x has a 200Mhz difference and is rocking a better stock cooler but the difference in performance between the two is like 2%. If the price difference is 50 bux I think getting the 3600 instead is a better choice. If you have the 50 bux and you want that better stock cooler go for it. If I were you I would buy the 3600 and buy an aftermarket cooler with that 50 bux so you can replace that stock cooler with a cooler that doesn't sound like a jet engine when you're gaming ;)

Something like the Artic Freezer 34 Esport Duo or the Hyper 212 Black. Around 45 bux.

I found this upgrade kit for 250 dollars (around 2k reais)
AMD Ryzen 5 3600, Asus Prime B450M Gaming/BR, 8GB 3000MHZ
So it’s not a tomahawk max but it comes along with one 8 gb 3000mhz ram, but I don’t know the MOBO...

Don't. VRM's on that B450M Gaming is in the low tier which mean they will be melting on the board ;). 1 stick of RAM = single channel memory. If you want to run your RAM in dual channel you will need 2 sticks from a kit.
