To answer your question, I'd say that this card isn't really good when it comes to gaming. It would work as an entry-level card, but not much more. From what I can see, the cheapest you can get this card for is $109,99US, with a mail-in rebate. I can see that the equivalent model for the 750ti is $99,99US with a mail-in rebate. It would surely give you better gaming performance than the GT740. Here's the link :

Concerning the RAM, if they are running at the same frequency and timing, then you can. If any of those two characteristics are different, it depends on the motherboard you're using and if it can do with it. It isn't, however, a question of manufacturer, as you would have to check the same things even between two models from the same make.
