Question good gpu but bad cpu. is this a problem?

im getting a rtx 2080 soon from my dad but i have a intel core i5-3570k cpu which i believe is pretty bad. my dad says it should be fine until i get a new motherboard for a new cpu. is there any risks this could cause?

That CPU - GPU will work just fine.
It will not kill anything.

It will bottleneck that RTX 2080 pretty hard, but it wont cause any damage, it just wont play as well as it could. If your motherboard supports them, and if you just wanted to throw a cheap stopgap cpu in until you get a full upgrade, you could look at using a Xeon 1240, 1245, 1270, 1275 V2 for like 20 - 25 dollars. It still wont be amazing, but those extra 4 threads make a difference.

Overall, your performance will not be worse than it is now.
Same FPS, but you can turn the graphics level up.
