We have this Asrock Z77 that had the graphics card finally die after months of troubles. What would be a good card to put in it now, considering the age of the board and all...

It is used almost entirely for gaming. The card it had I don't remember - I think it was something with a '55' in it. I've been looking for the thing... doesn't matter anyway, does it? It's running now on the onboard graphics..

What's the model of that motherboard? As long as it has a PCI expressx16 slot (which i really doubt that it doesn't) you should be able to throw anything there. Post your entire specs (CPU/mobo/PSU, etc) and your budget so we can make you a good suggestion.

Sorry guys, I was away. It is Coolermaster Silent Pro 600W.

Good to hear the motherboard is not a problem. There always having been problems with this thing since we got it I was all the time thinking that basically it might be an incompatibility issue. No such thing, eh? Good.

To educate me a little on the video card thing - could I just go down the list of Radeon's offerings and take it that the more recent the card the better it will be?

I have such a list I downloaded. I see the 5000 series, which I assume is what that 5700 was, came out in 2009.

Then there's the 6000, then 7000 the R series.

If I'm shopping, especially if I was shopping on eBay and such for used items, I could just go for any 6000 or 7000 series card and know it'd improve his graphics?

And, incidentally, what would be the graphics it's running on now, without a card? That Intel HD mentioned in the Belarc sheet?

And lastly is it wise to buy used or really unwise? Would you say. Bit of a guess I imagine. The price difference gets quite large I think. Or not? The resale value falls of quickly or slowly?

p.s. One more: got caught a few times in my ignorance by this: what slot type? PCIe good for it? And only that?

p.p.s. Budget: Oh, max at say $150 and I'd need convincing there was some real value in there for that.

I see R7's on ebay, new, for $110. Would they be good? The numbers I quoted don't always match the numbers in these eBay listings. Seem to change according to manufacturer perhaps. I wonder where I got my listing from. I was thinking Radeon was the manufacturer.... wrong...
