Good GPU for gaming on budget

Hey so, right now I have the msi twin frozr r9 270x 2gb gpu.

My budget is around $230 - $260 for a good gpu. I would like to have a noticeable jump in performance from the 270x so if you can help that would be great!

Nvidia or AMD I do not care, but please I need help I'm so lost and have no clue where to start.

For that budget you do not have a worth while upgrade, you need a little more and get either GTX970 or R9 390.
