Good GPU for the Intel Core i5-3470s @ 2.9ghz

Hi i have a core i5 3470s @ 2.9ghz and i'm planning to upgrade my GPU, can this CPU handle the GTX 1050 Ti?

Here are my specs:
Intel core i5-3470s
Kingston 8gb ddr3 1333mhz
Palit GTX 750 Ti
A 320gb with my OS and a 500gb WD for my files

Also do you think i should upgrade my CPU to i5-4460/70/90? Or is this cpu good enough?




One irrelevant question: Why am i getting fps drops on rainbow six siege? when i start the game i get 60-80 fps and after few multiplayer matches i get 20-40 fps then after a few rounds it goes back to 60-80. Can someone tell me what could be my problem? I only have chrome and r6 open

PS: This problem never occured when i only had 4gb of ram but after upgading to 8gb i started getting those fps drops

An i5-3470s (very slightly slower than the i5-3470) has no problems handling a GTX 1050 Ti for several games, but rainbow six siege may benefit from a more powerful CPU, particularly if you upgrade the GPU. How busy is the CPU when FPS drops?

You need a new motherboard to upgrade to an i5-4460/70/90, but if your mother supports it, you could consider upgrading to an i7-3770.

GTX1050ti should run fine and it is a nice graphics upgrade.

To assess the benefit,
Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

Adding ram let you put more in ram.
Perhaps your other apps are interfering.
Do you do better without Chrome?
Are there any other apps competing for resources?
Windows task manager resource monitor can help can help identify them.

What is the make/model of your motherboard?
CPU-Z will tell you.
The s suffix processors have reduced clock speed in return for lower wattage consumed.
If you need a cpu upgrade, look for a lga1155 processor with a high clock speed.
The strongest might be a I7-3770K, even if your motherboard does not support overclocking.

Unless a 10% performance improvement is significant for you, it isn't worth it because you need a new motherboard. If your main utilization is gaming, then a more powerful GPU may be a better investment.

If you want to upgrade, then consider a CPU like the i5-8400 (or an AMD Ryzen) along with a faster GPU than a GTX 1050 Ti.
