Hello everybody!
I am currently in the market for a third hard drive for my gaming computer. The two drives I have currently is a Kingston 120 GB SSD for the boot drive and a 500 GB WD Blue for a few other games. However, with many new demanding games being released and other games I want to play, I have found that my WD Blue just doesn't have quite the power it needs for heavier games. I also have few games I want to move off the SSD. So here lies my question. For gaming, would it be more beneficial to buy a WD Black since they are meant for gaming or buy a Samsung 850 Evo?

Thanks!

Hey there, Birdhouseman104.

If you're looking for a gaming drive I'd say you won't be able to have more then a few (or several games at best) on a 250GB drive, especially since you've mentioned new games and we all know how big they get with 50GB per game being quite often.
On the other hand if you need faster loading times, the SSD is the way to go. There's not much else you can expect in terms of performance when talking about storage and games. Basically what you'll get from a faster drive is faster initial loading of the game and faster in-game loading screens and a bit better performance when we're talking about open world and sandbox games, such as GTA5 for example.

So basically if you need a drive just for gaming, I'd advise...

How much storage do you actually need? Obviously the SSD will be quieter, and boot games faster, but if you need the extra gb then I would just get the western digital.

I have never run an SSD and im fine. Also it matters on how much money you want to spend.

I'll probably need around 250 GB of space. Money really isn't a problem, though I don't want to spend over $200 on a hard drive. Thanks :)

So basically if you need a drive just for gaming, I'd advise you to go for an HDD in order to get larger storage capacity if you don't mind the slower loading time compared to an SSD.

Since you've mentioned WD Black, a 2TB WD Black drive should do quite nicely and I say 2TB because the 2TB+ models have an additional feature for better reliability. You can check out the WD Black HDD here: WD Black. It also comes with a 5-year warranty.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I have all my games loaded on a SSD just so I know I'm going to get the fastest load time as I can. Don't go small on it though, something like this would work fine and at a good price.

Unless your current dive is 5400 RPM the blue drive should work just fine. If it's a 7200 RPM drive and your not satisfied with its performance then switching to a black drive is not going to really change that.

If you only need 250GB go for an Intel SSD.
If you want more storage then you can go for different WD drives

Purple: fast and reliable, up to 7200 RPM, designed for 24/7 use, these are good if you don't want SSD access times
Black: Better performance, but tends to overheat without proper cooling, it has somewhat better access times, but not a huge difference
Gold: It has the best performance and huge cache, but it's expensive
