Question Good home Wifi Booster / extender (is that what it's called?)

We just got a new carrier and got the 1 giga internet connection but our multi floor house doesn't seem to let the wifi signal go through as well as we were hoping for. I read online a bit but im a little lost with all the options honestly. Half of it i do not understand fully if it's what i need or not. I just need a signal booster to help boost the wifi signal to the second floor.

Is there any good options out there that are preferably not 2-300$? It's just for one computer and cellphones really.

What wired infrastructure do you have ? Ethernet cable? Coax cable? Using a wired backbone will provide the best performance.

It can be connected to a Cat 6 ethernet cable or through wifi in a range that's acceptable to not loose speed. Preferably wifi though as the cat6 cable wall plug isn't in a convenient place to be honest.

If you can connect back to your primary router via ethernet, then what you want is an access point rather than extender. An AP will provide an additional WIFI signal. Many routers have an "AP" mode. If you have an unused router you can use that as an AP.

What’s being implied here is the cat6 that’s not convenient can be connected to a new wireless router upstairs that has AP mode. Then you can utilize that router as your wireless connection. The output of the downstairs router gets a cable from the LAN connecter to the upstairs routers WAN connector.

Ahh got it! Sadly i do not have any used router around as we got rid of our old one a long time ago. Do you have any recommendation for one that i can buy used or new? It's boxing day tomorrow im guessing there must be some good deals out there on a reliable one?

Would the Netgear Nighthawk AX5400? A friend is offering me one for 40$ CND.

Also when using routers as APs, is it a security breach or it still requires the same wifi password as my original provider wifi router to access? Or do i have to setup a password on the IP as well? Sorry im not very knowledgeable about all this.
