Good Internet, but can't host servers with too many players

Hi, I've been having issues with my internet connection that's getting quite frustrating and makes very little sense to me. Essentially the problem is this - My internet speeds are decent, 70 - 90 mbs depending on the day. Uploads around 12ish mbs, yet, it appears I cannot sustain a game server with more than 6 players. Once a 7th or 8th player joins, everyone's ping suddenly jumps from <300 to 1000. I've been trying to figure it out by calling my ISP and doing all sorts of troubleshooting, but so far - to no avail. So are there any steps I can take beyond the standard resetting the router, port forwarding, etc?

See if your router has a utilization report and see how much bandwidth you are using. In most cases when you are running servers it upload that you are exceeding.
