Good memory for games and video

I'm am looking at replacing my memory with a faster speed so when I do video editing and play games it don't have such a lag. My system is:
FX-8350
PNY 770
corsair 600
500 GB SSD
2 TB HDD
16 GB Patriot 1333
Asus M5A99X Evo R2.0

I would like to keep at least 16 unless you think it's not necessary. Any tips or help would be great so I can get it ordered and work a little faster.

With your combo, 1866/9 is a good pick in 2x8GB - don't want 4x4GB and don't want to mix sets of DRAM...AMDs aren't known for a strong MC (memory controller) and 1866 is about the max for a 8350, would suggest the GSkill Snipers which are very good w/ AMD rigs

It's kind of subjective. The 2x8 option leaves you space to add more RAM. The 4x4 option populates all of your memory slots. If one stick goes bad, you are left with 8GB on the 2x8 option, but you are left with 12GB on the 4x4 option.

You will either use XMP (for 1866), or you will have set the timing manually to 1866 in the BIOS.

On a side note do I need a ram cooler for those units? I currently have 2 intake on the front and 4 exhaust on the top and one exhaust in the back.

No, you shouldn't need one. They have a heat sink already installed.

2x8GB is the preferred as AMD has relatively weak MCs (memory controllers and 4 sticks put more stress on the MC than 2 sticks, the 8350 itself is rated up to 1 stick per channel (2 total) by AMD, when going to 4 sticks they drop that rating to 1600 and even 1333.
