I am looking to buy a pair of ATH-M50's. I also need a microphone to go with it for Skype/games. any suggestions? I have quite a lot of background noise in my room (fan+computer fans). my Siberia V2 microphone does perfectly fine for this, handling the fan noise (doesn't pick it up at all). any clip on/mod microphones with similar quality/noise cancellation?

i've also got a Creative Sound Blaster Z sound card, not sure how this will effect a stand alone microphone. Or maybe if anyone has a suggestion of a headset, with a microphone, that has similar quality of a ATH-M50?

while completely your choice, i would just like to verify that the m50s are the right headphons for you.

you may want to google "tomshardware ssddx headphones headset" and read some of my other posts on various headphone threads.

you may want to list what you expect out of the headphones in terms of sound profile as well as soundstage and what you will be using them for. for instance "i want really boomy bass but not muddy sound" or "i want razer sharp highs and wide soundstage" etcetera...

also list what sort of budget you have.

as for microphones....

perhaps the best zero hassle mod on microphone is the modmic which sells for $50. it attaches via a stick on magnetic base and is removeable for when you want to use the headphones...

also its possible to use any boom mic meant for a headset that is removeable (the kind which has a 3.5mm connection on the end of the boom to plug into headsets which have a removeable boom) and use it on headphones. all you would need for that is a 3.5mm cable with the female end zip tied to your headphones.

generally studio type headphones completely blow headsets out of the water in terms of quality (except those made with studio headphones of course). i know of the pc363 and mmx 300 which both have good microphones as well as good headphones however both are bass light with sharp clear highs so are the opposite sound signature of the m50 as well as being rather expensive for what they are (you could buy a dt770pro or hd598 and pair it up with a mic for $100+ cheaper and it will be just as good)
