I need a good 500w molex era PSU for around 20-30 dollars if it is at all possible. Realized an issue with a computer I have is that the PSU is not sufficient being a 250w pos. Specs are Asus P4s800D-X Motherboard
Pentium 4 CPU
GeForce 6600 GT
1 gb ram
Molex HDD
Molex Optical Drive
Fans with 4 pin connectors
There are SATA Ports on this Mobo but I dont use them since its like 12 years old and all, basically EVERYTHING is 4 pin. So link me anything useful please, I'm not knowledgeable on Power supplies with the rails and what is good quality for the era. It is an old system but I'd hate for a poor PSU to fry the boards so any insight is well appreciated.

It's not about "todays standards", it's about having something that won't burn down your house.

At this point, a computer like that is not worth putting a single penny into. If you can't afford an expensive replacement, there are a ton of refurb systems that will run circles around that computer for $150, hell, even $70 will get you http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883283273 . For less than $100, you can get a model I have about a dozen of...

It doesn't have to be what one would want for today's standards. That will be too expensive. 6 molex is exactly what I would like but not for that price. Every power supply I find is pretty much SATA and thats not what I need at all.

This is for a computer I've had for a while, more of a nostalgia trip. My main computer is well beyond a pentium 4. I did end up getting a psu for around 20 dollars though, I don't expect this machine to run 24/7 it probably wouldn't see much power on time for more than an hour actually. I just want this machine to tinker with per se but if I were to be getting a psu for any respectable PC I would definitely not skimp on this component, I've had my mishap with a cool max zx-500. Thanks for the help I suppose I'll make your post the answer because I really wouldn't spend money on this if I needed a good computer.

If you just wanted to tinker with it you should have said so in the original post. Some people are actually trying to use those systems as a main computer, which is why I advised getting that other set (not as good for tinkering with, but perfect for a linux test machine)

You can always get a corsair VS/CX/CM unit with a whole bunch of PCIe to molex and SATA to molex adapters for that system, definitely not recommended for a main system since the PSU won't last that long, but might be good for that build. http://pcpartpicker.com/product/hgGkcf/corsair-power-supply-cx500 <-- right now $30, though the adapters may add another$20 to the price

Also http://pcpartpicker.com/product/GvyFf7/fsp-group-power-supply-atx350pnt if you want cheaper, comes with 2 molex
