Good motherboard for HD4850

Hi,
I'm planning to upgrade my PC. I don't plan to go Crossfire or SLi. My monitor is Samsung 20" widescreen. I plan to get HD 4850 512 MB. Can anyone suggest a good motherboard and CPU (intel) to go along with it and also for 9800 GTX+.

Remember that both those cards need a 6 pin PCI-E connector from the PSU to power them and about 450Watts from it.
Are you looking for dual or quad core for the CPU?
Also, can you give a few links to online sites in India? Preferably those that can deliver countrywide, a tall order I know given the size of India but we are getting quite a few posting from your country and it would be helpful if we could check sites there rather than looking to Newegg or European sites!

According to my currency converter 30,000 Rupees is about 620 US Dollars!
Also, please give us details of the powersupply: Watts and amps on the +12v output or outputs.

30,000 Rs would be about 620 US dollars. Actually I want to upgrade the whole system. I have a Samsung 20" widescreen monitor which I bought recently. Everything else apart from that. I'll opt for Core 2 Duo. what would be the ideal CPU speed to get the most out of the card? Check www.computerwarehousepricelist.com for prices.

I don't know what the relative availability of AMD processors and the relative pricing of AMD is in India, but in the U.S. in the $600.00 dollar price range, you can usually do much better with AMD.

Oh one more thing. I have an IDE DVD writer and a hard disk as well, which I'd like to keep. Are there ATA to SATA adapters available???

But i've read that Core 2 Duo is better than comparable AMDs.

I don't know what you mean by better. The Intel i7 processors are faster than the fastest AMD processors, and speed is certainly one measure of goodness, but on your budget, you can't afford the Intel i7 processors. As far as function, power used, reliability, which are other measures of goodness, they are about the same. When you start looking at what you can afford, I think you will get more for your money if you look at AMD. Not only are the processors themselves less expensive, but the mother boards are also less expensive. And it may be easier set up an ATI GPU on a motherboard that has an AMD chipset.

In that case can you suggest two configurations-one intel based and the other AMD with these things in mind:
1. GPU - HD 4850 512 MB
2. Need to connect one IDE Dvd writer and ATA hard disk.
