I am pretty sure your socket is AM3 and the best if your motherboard is the one specified is Phenom II X6 1100T Hexa Core or if u want a quad core Phenom II X4 980.

Technically, if cost were no limit, you could upgrade to a current-generation motherboard and processor.

Here is the page from Gigabyte with your motherboard and there says its and AM3... can be an older version what u have?
