Good ssd for $200

I don't know a lot about ssd's and I'm looking to purchase one in the near future. I have a 200 budget and would like to get the most out of my money. What would be my best route?

Nope, WD Raptor are not a good alternative for the SSD, the SSD has faster R/W transfer rates, performing silently, the Raptor is loud as hell and besides, the SSD has incredible load times for applications and windows.

Both are top end SSDs, and difference between them is negligible, whichever you find cheaper pick it up.

The velociraptor and ssd serve different functions. Ssd are great for boot up and commonly used programs and velociraptor make a fast system data drive. I started with a 600gb one and when 128gb ssd drop to under $100 I added one. The velociraptor are not loud.

Do you think from the performance point of view that the vr would be a good buy at 229 for a 1 tb vs a 256 Samsung ssd for 200+? I mean the vr is a better performer than a 7200 rpm hdd. I'm just trying to weigh the options.

I paid $150 for my 600gb vr 2 years ago and I added a 128gb Samsung 830 SSD 2 months ago for $80. The vr would boot up windows 7 ult in 30 sec. when new. The vr is a solid drive. I think at 229 for a 1tb vr is a good performance value. The problem with a 256gb ssd is it's not big enough for a system drive. I would par the vr with a 128gb ssd. Good ones can be had for $80 on sale. SSDs big advantage is still on bootup. I think people have opinions on gear that they have no experience with.

If you want the SSD, this is the gooood deal now, because the price of SSD is going up and you can't find the deal like a couple of months before. read the link like the rgd1101' post.

SSD is the most upgrade you can ever feel, I have a Raid0 HDDS beside the SSD, transfer rates between the drives reaches 300 MB/s for large multimedia files. Go to youtube and see how applications & windows start on the SSD in compare with the HDD. It's a must nowadays to have a SSD in your system.

Yeah iI would never go back to an hdd boot drive at this point, you'll be extremely impressed with the samsung drive
