Although I guess you could do that to yours. I wouldn't ever do that to mine. I'm not chancing a $215 screw up.

Some coolers even have the surface bowed (convex) for better contact to the center such as the Phantekx.

Now that I think about it, that's what thermal paste is for. Apparently "Lapping" the CPU is so the small gaps and uneven things are not there.

As for the water cooling remark unless you have an open loop (not the closed ones) it's better to just go for a high end air cooler.

but if i were you, i will go to Artic Mx-4

I never said Arctic Silver 5 was bad. But it's somewhat more of an idiot proof paste rather than maximum performance. Easy to apply worse results.
