So I have the HD 5770 for over a year now, and it does not play Dragon Age 2 as smooth as I want. Being out of touch with the GPU market, I did some research on current AMD models.

Is it just me, or is the HD 6000 series not much of an improvement (if at all)?

Should I wait for the 7000 series?

6k series is a bit confusing because it derails from AMD's traditional marketing in the past.

The 6990 is now equal to what you would consider a 5870, in that the 6990 is the flagship model. The 6970 would be similar to a 5850, 6950, perhaps a 5770, etc.

Reminder, that's just in relation to the numbers and modeling, not performance.

In regards to performance, you'll see an upgrade if you get something like a 6970.

Are you only willing to look at AMD cards?

My system is Core i7 870 @ 3.9Ghz with 8GB ram rated at 1600mhz
My monitor is 1920x1080p

I am willing to go nvidia only if the price/performance is better. But as I understood, nvidia makes good high end card, but amd takes the value crown?
