hey what would you recommend as a good upgrade from my geforce3? i havent found any benchmark results comparing gf3/gf4/the new fx series and all of atis latest cards.

and im a little confused on actual performance of all these different cards.

i'd like something faster of course. i know the gf4 4200 was about 2x as fast as my gf3. i'd like to go that fast, or faster. money really doesnt matter, i just never overspend on the absolute fastest because its just not that important to me.
im in the sub 200 range.

i had my eye on the 9500 for a long time but never bought because i was happy with my gf3 performance.
and i dont know how that card performs compared to the geforce4s.. but i know it has dx9 support and is faster.

the 5200 compared to my gf3 is something ive been very interested in learning about due to their low price.

the 5600 caught my eye the most but again, dont know performance levels.

the 9600 is something i think is up my alley.. let me know

Yeah dude, I don't think the 5200 would be a real good upgrade from your gf3. Sure its cheap, but it ain't worth $100. The FX5600 is good, but not as good as the 9600. You'd be best of with a 9500 or 9600, probably. Or, for a tad more longevity, a 9700.

The best bang for the buck right now is the Radeon 9700 non-pro. You can find it opnline for about $200.

Other than that, Radeon 9500 PRO or 9600 PRO are the way to go for price/performance.

Radeon 9700 (non-Pro) or faster Radeon will be a good upgrade for you.

And STAY AWAY FROM GeForce FX cards.

To go for the gold, get the Geforce ti4600. Its the best 4x card you money can buy and it is about $160.00 . Next One would be that TI4200 for about 110.00. Getting the new Radeons (9500 and up) would be a waste of money for most of its performance depends on that 8x AGP bandwidth in which these device would perform less than their 4x companions.

addiarmadar is plain wrong, and I'm not sure why he's so hung up on 8x AGP.

8x AGP makes little or no performance improvement over 4x AGP in real world applications.

The Ti4600 is a good card, but your framerates will be WAY higher with a Radeon 9700. Period. End of story.

Yeah dude, holy crap, this addiarmadar guy is a complete moron! WTF dude? I have a 9800 and if i set AGP to 4x ill see about a 1% performance decrease, MAYBE!
GO to hell fargot, and stop giving out 14m3 advice.

Go with a 9500/9600 pro or 9700 non-pro.

Long live ATI.

Add, do you not read these forums? Goodness, its obvious that the 9500 Pro/9700 aren't a waste of of money, seeing as how they're the best values on the market!!! Goodness man, either you're just misinformed, or unwilling to realize that there isn't really an nVidia worth buying at the moment, unless you're looking at "budget cards." Hell, ATi has Budget cards too!

thanks, i think i'm going to order a 9700 pro. i read some reviews for the fx series and they are a huge disappointment to me. i would normally try to keep a nvidia gfx card in my nforce2 but i dont really care and have no brand loyalty (im too cheap to be brand loyal) as long as they work together.

but i think i'll shell out the extra $60 and go for the pro 9700.. will last a while and it blows the doors off most everything. im going to order a 21in. monitor since im going all out to take advantage of higher resolutions.

i'd like the 9800 model but its got that nice introductory price.
soon i'll be playing diablo 2 (lol, yes) and warcraft 3 with all AA/FSAA options on.

thanks again i feel better already

If only more people were as open as you!

I'd just like to add that the 5200 would NOT increase your performance, as it performs like a geForce 3.
